COFFEE TALK BEYOND BUZZ
"I believe humans get a lot done, not because we're smart, but because we have thumbs so we can make coffee." ~ Flash RosenbergAmong adults, coffee is the #1 consumed beverage in Canada, a good proportion of which is consumed by myself and a really nice fellow in the office by the name of, Wayne.
I absolutely need my 3 cups in the morning. I’ll admit it, I’m addicted to the bean and have no intention of taking any 12 step program soon. For me, caffeine isn’t a drug, it’s a vitamin. Some people think 3 cups is too much, but on the other hand, I’ve seen that really nice guy, Wayne, go through 3 pots in a day and test the strength of each cup by checking to see if a spoon will stand upright. (Due to which, Wayne is sort of, ‘on the edge’, so we always say nice things about him.)
Some people believe they’re not completely productive until they’ve at least had their morning cuppa. Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com said, “In Seattle, you haven’t had enough coffee until you can thread a sewing machine while it’s running”.
I like to think of my morning coffee more as my routine, to gently ease me into the day. I put my coffee on to brew as I’m leaving to walk the dog and love the smell of it as we return and enter the house. In a previous blog, I said that good wine is one of life’s small pleasures, and so is good coffee.
Because of that, I’m a bit fussy over how my coffee is made. My main preference is a French press system, and even though percolators violate most of the natural laws of brewing coffee, they come a close second. I don’t do flavours and the only thing I put in my coffee, is coffee. As my grandmother used to say when asked how she takes hers, “Mit scwhartz”. (with black)
I had better sign off; Wayne is pacing outside my door and I don’t want to keep him waiting! So, has coffee become routine for you? What’s your favourite cuppa brew method and how do you take yours?
